CHANGE THE SYSTEM OR YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS.
We live in a politically and economically globalized world, yet people feel out of touch.
Our belief at SILFIR is that the human brain is overwhelmed with the task of making 'good' purchasing decisions. As a disillusioning result, people don't even try.
However, humans have empathy and morality when they socially exchange with others that they know. Think of the hunters and gatherers: they lived in groups of up to 50 people meaning all exchanges were personable. We believe these personable interactions to be the most natural way to drive fairness and equality - it's in our genes.
The dilemma in our economy today is that we greatly impact others with our buying decisions but are completely out of touch. Fair trade and other ethical buying initiatives have remained niche because they don't leverage people's need to have a relationship with those they buy from.
